SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EARTHQUAKE SHAKEOUT!!! Today.

Today, November 13, 2008, the Earthquake Country Alliance has organized the Great Southern California Shakeout, a massive earthquake drill--7.5 magnitude--at 10 AM. THIS IS ONLY A DRILL! Below is a list of things you can do and things you should have on hard, in case...

• If you're INDOORS when it hits, Drop, Cover, and Hold On!


• If you're OUTDOORS when it hits, Move to a clear area if you can safely do so.


• If you're DRIVING when it hits, pull over to the side, stop and set your parking brake.


• AVOID overpasses, bridges and power-lines.


• Have on hand: Water, food, blankets, clothing, flashlights, batteries, radio--for SEVERAL days or WEEKS.


• Have emergency items in your car


• Prepare your home: secure furniture, electronics, wall hangings, ANYTHING that could fall


• Know where your gas shut off is and HOW to SHUT IT OFF

SKI SLOPES & RESORTS IN OUR CALIFORNIA MOUNTAINS

Just like everything else here in Southern California, we are close to SKI SLOPES & resorts! Really, how many other states can you hop in your car and within few minutes, or a few hours, arrive at the desert, the beach, the valley or in the mountains? NOT MANY!

SNOW VALLEY, in Running Springs--San Bernardino Mountains--is about 30 minutes from Lake Arrowhead. Snow Valley has some gentle runs (in my opinion) and it's a great place to take the entire family. From their link (above), you can access snow reports, buy tickets, get a terrain report and tons, tons more! Snow Valley tries to open every year around Thanksgiving. There's some interesting history about SNOW SUMMIT, in Big Bear, that you may not know; A sportsman named Tommi Tyndall, along with his wife and other investors, are responsible for this ski area and for the installation of the FIRST chair lift in the nation! Snow Summit is about 90 minutes from Los Angeles, gets quite a bit more snow than Snow Valley and has more "strenuous" runs. If you want to get out of Dodge and head up north, then you may want to consider MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN. With over 400" of snowfall annually, and thousands of acres of terrain to ski, sometimes Mammoth will have snow when no other ski resort do. Located off Hwy 395, it is quite a drive...but most people say it's well worth it. Map & Directions

DOMESTIC ABUSE IS NOT BIASED--It CAN happen ANYWHERE & to ANYONE

DOMESTIC ABUSE happens in large cities. It happens in small communities. IT can HAPPEN to anyone, regardless of race, color, religion, political background, education... DOMESTIC VIOLENCE has NO boundaries.
I was a young mother in the 60's with two little boys and married to an animal. I EXPERIENCED domestic abuse first HAND, literally. IN those days when I called the police after being beat, they would show up, peer down at my bloodied face and say, "We have to see him hit you, "Ma'am." Thank GOD I was one of the lucky ones and finally escaped that beast, and that lifestyle. Thank GOD times have changed some when it comes to domestic violence. It hasn't been eliminated by no stretch of the imagination and never will be. But there are so many wonderful groups and shelters now-a-days where a victim can go seek help.
Even in our little mountain community, we have an awesome place called D.O.V.E.S, (DOMESTIC VIOLENCE EDUCATION & SERVICES). The staff is always available--day or night--to help YOU.

There are many FREE blog sites available to set up your own BLOG, be it for business or personal use. I have several blogs. I use https://www.blogger.com/start (BLOGGER).com, because I found it to be one of the most user friendly, with easy templates to pick and choose. To start off (after you click on the link I provided) go to SIGN UP. Create a user-name and password. THINK about the user-name and the name you are about to give your BLOG. If it is for business, then be especially thoughtful.

GOOGLE JUICE: It's Internet slang meaning "the substance which flows between web pages through their hyperlinks." Pages with many links pointing to them acquire 'Google Juice.' I ALWAYS add hyperlinks to my posts, as you will see on my blog.


WIKIPEDIA= Online/Web/Encyclopedia. This is awesome!!!


WIDGETS? A web widget is a "code" that can be installed within a separate HTML-(link) based web page. It can be a calculator, clock, games, and on and on.... Go to WidgetBox to see the zillions of things you can add to your blog or website. I'm a WIDGET-a-holic!

If you've never been to the LAKE ARROWHEAD RESORT, then you have no idea what you've been missing. This hotel is beyond beautiful! BUT, that's not what this post is about.
It's about FREE MOVIE NIGHT at the Lake Arrowhead Resort--TONIGHT, November 4th, 2008.
Every Tuesday night at 7:00 PM, the RESORT hosts "classic" movie night. FREE!!! Tonight's flick is a 1940's classic with Humphrey Bogart, Ida Lupino and Cornel Wilde in HIGH SIERRA.
