LAKE ARROWHEAD Weather ~ Four Mild Seasons!

I thought I'd share a little info about our mountain seasons.  Some people think, when you say Southern California, it's always sunshine and no rain.  Not true in the local mountains.

There's A Storm A Comin'. PROTECT YOUR PIPES!

Southern California mountain folks are about to be slapped around by Mother Nature, again, as a cold winter storm heads our way.OLD MAN WINTER Temps are expected to start dropping fast and snow levels may be down as low as 2,000 (that is low). A foot of snow (or more) is expected....

Last month many of us suffered frozen (or worse, busted) pipes. So this time, we may all want to try even harder to avoid that problem. Some good tips to help are:

  • Making sure exposed pipes are wrapped
  • Part timers need to turn off their water and drain their pipes
  • Part timers need to keep their thermostat turned up to at least 55
  • Full timers can open their cupboards under their sinks so heat gets in
  • Full timers can let their hot water facets drip at night

More tips here.

KEEP YOUR HOME DRY!

Lake Arrowhead Fall Day With Snow in The Future

Lake Arrrowhead is beautiful today! Fall temps heading up to the mid 60's. BUT, look out, it'll be dipping within the next few days.  Forecaster are even talking snow.

So, on that note, check out my recent post on winterizing your Lake Arrowhead home. Enjoy.

know. I know. We're quite a few days away from winter. BUT it's never to early to be prepared when youwinter in the mountains live in the mountains since Mother Nature can change her weather-mind in a spilt second. If mountain folks don't prepare, they may face some expensive problems (like broken pipes, for one) later on.
Below are a few tips to get your Lake Arrowhead (mountain) home"prepared" for "Old Man Winter."

Fireplace: It's a perfect time, if you haven't already, to call a Chimney Sweep. He/she can make sure your fireplace is not only clean, but safe.

Roof: Is your roof ready for rain and snow? A good check-up may be in order.

Landscaping: Sprinklers (irrigation systems) should be turned off and hoses drained.

Pipes! Make sure exposed pipes are "wrapped." These problems can be soooo expensive IF they freeze and burst.

Weekend cabin/home: If you're a part-timer, make sure you drain your pipes before heading home, and turn off the water. A SHUT OFF VALVE is an awesome item to have installed.

Doors and Windows: Weather-stripping and caulking should be your best friend!

Gutters: Clean them of leaves and pine-needles.

Power Outages: In case the power goes out (and it can!): Make sure you have plenty of candles, extra flashlights, loads of batteries & a lantern or two and matches. Generators are always helpful.

Snow Equipment: Place your snow shovels in an easy-to-get-to spot. If you have a snow blower, it's a great time to take it for a "check up."

Food and Drinking Water: Bottled water and can(non-perishable) goods should be on hand (3-4 days...just in case)
