GO "TUBING" IN OUR LOCAL SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS

Remember when we were a kid and couldn't wait for the first big snowfall so you could grab your inner tubes and toboggans (or trashcan lids) and hit any snow-covered hill around? Weren't those some of the best times in your life?

Well, if you're visiting the San Bernardino Mountains this winter and are looking for a great place to take the kiddos (big kids, too) for a fun-filled day, head up to SNOWDRIFT TUBING PARK, Southern California's largest and oldest tubing park. The park is approximately 4 miles east of Running Springs on Rim of The World Highway (18).
The park supplies you with the tubes you'll need, which are specially designed with a belly strap and handles. They have slopes for the beginner, the intermediate and the advanced... a slope for everyone!

So the next time you're trying to think of something fun to do in the San Bernardino Mountains, head to Snowdrift Tubing Park.

FAVORITE BREAKFAST PLACES IN LAKE ARROWHEAD

Your Lake Arrowhead Realtor would like to share some local Lake Arrowhead Information with you.

There are a lotta folks up here in Lake Arrowhead for the holidays. And many, like me, love eating breakfast out. If you're a breakfast-eater-outer, here are some of my faves here in our local mountains:

  • BELGIAN WAFFLE WORKS, at The Village, lakeside. OMgosh..their waffles melt in your mouth. Really, literally! They don't just have waffles, though.

  • BILL'S VILLAGER in Blue Jay is a down to earth & home cookin' at its best. Very low key, big old booths and loads of friendly service. Smack dab in the center of Blue Jay, you can't miss it.

  • CEDAR GLEN INN, in Cedar Glen also is a down to earth, wear your old jeans kind of place. The food is home cookin' and HUGE helpings. You will NOT go away hungry. Map & Directions

DON'T GET CAUGHT WITH YOUR PIPES DOWN!

Winter is here, so I want to remind you mountain folks that it is time (past time, in fact) to winterize your mountain home, if you haven't already. We've had some really COLD temps and, let's face it, you just can trust Mother Nature.

Below are a few tips to get your Lake Arrowhead (mountain) home"prepared" for "Old Man Winter."
****************************Winterize
Fireplace: Time for a CHIMNEY SWEEP to come check out your fireplace & make sure it is not only clean, but safe.
Roof: Is your roof ready for rain and snow?
Landscaping: Sprinklers (irrigation systems) should be turned off and hoses drained.
Pipes! Make sure exposed pipes are "wrapped." These problems can be so expensive IF they freeze , they may burst.
Weekend cabin/home: If you're a part-timer, make sure you drain your pipes before heading home, and turn off the water. A SHUT OFF VALVE is an awesome item to have installed.
Doors and Windows: Weather-stripping and caulking should be your best friend!
Gutters: Clean out leaves and pine-needles.
Power Outages: In case the power goes out (and it can!): Make sure you have plenty of candles, extra flashlights, loads of batteries & a lantern or two, and matches. Generators are always helpful.
Snow Equipment: Place your snow shovels in an easy-to-get-to spot. If you have a snow blower, it's a great time to take it for a "check up." Call ME for a list of companies who plow driveways, etc.
Food and Drinking Water: Bottled water and can(non-perishable) goods should be on hand (3-4 days...just in case)

Thanksgiving Week in Lake Arrowhead!
Can you believe that we're already in the Holiday season? Me either! Where does time go?
Honestly, though, this is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the cool, crisp air, yummy goodies being baked and shared, and the smiling folks lucky enough to live on our mountain or to have a mountain cabin to sneak up to every chance they get.
If you're up on the mountain this Holiday week, enjoy yourself. Take a trip to The Village and do some Christmas shopping, grab a meal at one of our local restaurants or take a stroll around Lake Gregory.

Below is a list of Thanksgiving Weekend Happenings

So, on that note, check out my recent post on winterizing your Lake Arrowhead home. Enjoy.

know. I know. We're quite a few days away from winter. BUT it's never to early to be prepared when youwinter in the mountains live in the mountains since Mother Nature can change her weather-mind in a spilt second. If mountain folks don't prepare, they may face some expensive problems (like broken pipes, for one) later on.
Below are a few tips to get your Lake Arrowhead (mountain) home"prepared" for "Old Man Winter."

Fireplace: It's a perfect time, if you haven't already, to call a Chimney Sweep. He/she can make sure your fireplace is not only clean, but safe.

Roof: Is your roof ready for rain and snow? A good check-up may be in order.

Landscaping: Sprinklers (irrigation systems) should be turned off and hoses drained.

Pipes! Make sure exposed pipes are "wrapped." These problems can be soooo expensive IF they freeze and burst.

Weekend cabin/home: If you're a part-timer, make sure you drain your pipes before heading home, and turn off the water. A SHUT OFF VALVE is an awesome item to have installed.

Doors and Windows: Weather-stripping and caulking should be your best friend!

LAKE ARROWHEAD BOATING & MORE

Some people just can't get enough of Lake Arrowhead...and I mean the LAKE, as in boating. A cruise around Lake Arrowhead (by boat) is one of the best ways to see this spectacular mountain resort's 12 miles of shoreline....There is no better place to watch our 4th of JULY Fireworks display that takes place right on the lake.... And there is no better place to enjoy time with family and friends than on a boat, on Lake Arrowhead.

At approximately 5,200 ft elevation, Lake Arrowhead is truly "above it all." It's a private lake and, in order to have access for boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, you must be a property owner, living within "The Woods" (see link below). The Lake is owned by ARROWHEAD LAKE ASSOCIATION (ALA) and, besides owning and operating The Lake, ALA also owns Burnt Mill Beach Club, Tavern Bay Beach Club, Marina Peninsula Park and Grass Valley Lake (next to LAKE ARROWHEAD COUNTRY CLUB).

At ALA's Marina, there's everything a boater needs: launch your boat, gas it up, get a bite to eat at Nana's, or enjoy a break by the water at the Marina Peninsula Park and watch the boaters....

Now that fall is here and Old man Winter will be knocking on our door soon, most folks have already removed their boats from the lake and have them safe and secure..hatches are buttoned down. However, it IS a good time to start thinking about buying a boat or a dock--prices are usually much better after the season has closed. Other "stuff" you might want to know about having lake rights and putting a boat on the lake:

  • You MUST own property within the lake rights "The Woods" .
  • General membership fee is $60.00 approx
  • Registration fee is $200.00 per boat (with dock), $300.00 (w/out dock) Approx
  • Boats must be at least 12 ft and no longer than 26 ft.
  • Must own the boat (DMV Registration required)
  • Must carry $500,000 combined single limit liability (Arrowhead Lake Association must be named as "Additional Insured).
  • Must provide proper mooring (Slip Rental Agreement Signed by Slip owner), or day launch;
  • Must obtain a boat operator's license ($15, Open book, multiple choice test);
  • BEACH CLUBS
  • MAP/LAKE RIGHT BOUNDARIES

Lake Arrowhead Country Club

It's hard to believe, but Lake Arrowhead Country Club (LACC) was once a cow pasture. THAT'S RIGHT! Because the area was all about logging in the late 1800's and early 1900's, the work horses and cows needed a grazing area and LACC was it!
That all changed in 1963 when Lake Arrowhead Country Club was constructed as large a-frame clubhouse. Some of the celebrity guests at the grand opening included Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. Then in 1978, members of the club purchased the course, club house and tennis courts and turned it into a private, member-owned Country Club, as it is TODAY.
Members not only have this beautiful course to play on, other amenities with membership include tennis, swimming or plain old relaxing on their aquatic deck. There's no better way to spend a day in my book!
Perhaps you have a function coming up: wedding, anniversary or other important event. The Club House staff can handle "most" anything. What a setting to have a party, don't you agree?
Members may dine at the Club every day. However, during spring and fall, hours are reduced and the menu selections are changed. Even though the Clubhouse is open all year, in the winter, only pre-scheduled parties and events are held.... speaking of winter, there is nothing more gorgeous than this golf course with a blanket of fresh snow covering it.

So, if you love to golf, and you live in Lake Arrowhead, you may want to consider checking out the LAKE ARROWHEAD COUNTRY CLUB.

LAKE ARROWHEAD Historical Museum

The RIM OF THE WORLD HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM is a must see! It opened June 5th, 2010 and enough thanks cannot be given to the fine members and volunteers of the society who made it happen! We should all be very proud of their time and effort that went into getting the museum up and running. Clap! Clap!
My family and I were lucky enough to go explore the Museum on Sunday, June 6, 2010. I have to tell you, I was more than impressed. There is so much about Lake Arrowhead that I did not know, and thanks to these fine people, I now know where I can get answers to questions I have. And think about what this will mean for our young, local children. They will now get to go on "field trips" to the museum and learn about our great community, The San Bernardino County Mountains; how they were formed and by whom.
Upon a visit, you'll be amazed at all the old memorabilia the museum has on hand, much of which was donated by residentsRim of The World Historical Museum who've been here "forever" or passed down from their descendants. Experience a reproduction of Santa's Village. A "Movie Room" to check out some of the films made here. Blown up pictures of everything and everyone from a newly opened Snow Valley Ski Resort to the "Shanty Town" scene from Gone With The Wind. You will love it!
